Putting your digital photos on your personal computer is a great way to get immediate copies. To do this, you need to hook your camera up to your computer with a USB (Universal Serial Bus) cable. Most digital cameras come with a USB cable, so you may already have one. Connecting your camera to your computer is straightforward, and it only takes a moment or two to download photos.

Step 1

Turn on your camera and computer and connect the camera via the included USB cable. Consult the user guide for your particular model computer if you are having problems locating the USB port on your computer.

Step 2

Wait for your computer to detect the connection. Once it does, a text box will appear asking what you would like to do with your pictures. If you are using a Mac, the iPhoto program will automatically open on your computer.

Step 3

On a PC, click on the Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard option in the box and wait for the program to open up. Click 'Next' when the program opens up. Windows 10.

  1. Turn on the computer.

  3. Insert the recording media containing the pictures into the camera.
    IMPORTANT: Skip this step if you want to transfer pictures recorded on the internal memory of a camera. The internal memory of a camera cannot be accessed when a memory card is inserted.

  6. On the desktop screen of the computer, on the task bar, click the Start button and then click the My Computer icon.

    NOTE: The folder and any subfolders containing images will be copied to the computer hard drive. If you only want to copy select images you can open the folder and then click and drag only the desired image files to the computer.

  9. On the desktop screen of the computer, rename the DCIM folder to a name that will help you identify the picture contents.

After following the steps above, the pictures from the camera should successfully be copied to the computer. If for some reason the pictures did not copy, and your camera supports Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP), try using PTP to copy the pictures .
