A list of science fiction films released in the 1950s. These films include core elements of science fiction, but can cross into other genres. They have been released to a cinema audience by the commercial film industry and are widely distributed with reviews by reputable critics.
This period is sometimes described as the 'classic' era of science fiction theater. Much of the production was in a low-budget form, targeted at a teenage audience. Many were formulaic, gimmicky, comic-book-style films. They drew upon political themes or public concerns of the day, including depersonalization, infiltration, or fear of nuclear weapons. Invasion was a common theme, as were various threats to humanity.[1]
Two of the films from this decade, The War of the Worlds (1953) and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) won Academy Awards, while Destination Moon (1950) and The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957) won Hugo Awards.

OK folks we're into 1957.While it was the year that saw man's first successful spacecraft: Sputnik back down on earth it was more about quantity than quality for science fiction movies not that there wasn't some good movies, in my opinion there was, but this was the year the atom went wild and monsters were crawling from everywhere.
We have 3 films I would consider classics
20 Million Miles to Earth another great monster from harryhausen ,i've included the original B&W version and the 2007 colorized version here personally i prefer the B&W version but it was originally meant to be shot in color and some folks might prefer it that way.
Invasion of the Saucermen, i love this movie its kinda campy and cheesy but does it so well and the aliens are a hoot.
The Incredible Shrinking Man, Jack Arnold does another great job on this story of atomic radiation gone awry.
There's also The Brain from Planet Arous and The 27th Day both enjoyable films and Robby the Robot is back in The Invisible Boy.
Elsewhere we have a double-bill of Roger Corman with Not of This Earth and Attack of the Crab Monsters (1 good 1 not so good).
The Atom has numerous effects on people growing, shrinking, turning into monsters and more giant bugs than you can shake a stick at.In 2 cases even the rocks try to destroy the world, throw in a couple of Mad scientists,a giant robot,a few dinosaurs and a killer tree and i think we got all bases covered(chuckle)..oh and dont forget THE GIANT CLAW!
